Cal cium Carbide(CaC2) is also known as ca lcium carbide. Chemical formula CaC2. It is an important chemical raw material prepared by the chemical processing of limestone. The properties of cal cium carbide are related to purity, and industrial products are mostly a mixture of cal cium carbide and calcium oxide, and contain trace amounts of sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and other impurities, and the color is gray, brown to black with the increase of impurity content. The melting point and conductivity both decrease with the decrease of purity, and the purity of industrial products is generally 80%, and the melting point is 1800~2000 °C. It does not react with air at room temperature, but oxidation occurs above 350 °C, and can react with nitrogen at 600~700 °C to generate calcium cyan amide. Cal cium carbide meets water or water vapor to form acetylene and release a large amount of heat. When storing, it should be tightly waterproof, usually packed in an airtight iron container, and if necessary, stored in a dry warehouse filled with nitrogen.
