1. It is slowly oxidized into orthophos phoric acid in the air and decomposed into orthophos phoric acid and phos phine (highly toxic) when heated to 180ºC. Phos phorous acid is a dibasic acid, its acidity is slightly stronger than phos phoric acid, and it has strong reducibility, which can easily reduce Ag ions to metallic silver and sulfuric acid to sulfur di oxide. Strong hygroscopicity and deliquescence, corrosive. Can cause burns. Irritating to the skin. Placed in the air, it deliquesces and is easily soluble in water. When the temperature is higher than 160ºC, H3PO4 and PH3 are generated.

Widely used as the raw materials to make phos phorous acid salt,used as the raw materials for making of plasticstabilizator in the plasticindustry,used as reducer in chemical reaction,also used in the olefin industry, agricultural chemical industry and so on.
1.Agrochemical :Phos phorous acid is used to prepare phosphite salts, such as potassium phosphite, which serve as excellent agricultural fungicides. These salts, in addition to aqueous solutions of pure phos phorous acid, are very effective in controlling a variety of microbial plant diseases. An important and nutritious element in all living species, phosphorous compounds are also applied extensively as fertilizer e.g. phosphites, phosphonates or phosphates.

2.Life Science : Used in chemical reactions as a reducing agent that is somewhat less vigorous than the related Hypophos phorous Acid

3.Oil & Gas : Phosphorus based compounds are used extensively in the oil industry as additives. These chemicals have properties which aid lubrication, oxidation and inflammability. They also have good thermal and cold resistance attributes. e.g. tributyl phosphate, tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate

4.Plastics & Polymers : Phosphorus compounds are used as PVC stabilsers to prevent decomposition and impart enhanced resistance to daylight, weathering and heat ageing. As lead based stablisers are being phased out within Europe, materials such as calcium phosphite are now widely used.

5.Water Treatment : One of the most important use of phos phorous acid is the production of phosphonates for industrial water treatment. Phosphonates are employed as chemical additives to function in a wide range of antiscalants and corrosion inhibitors, because they have high stability in the presence of oxidizing agents e.g. 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid.
